Our mission is to foster a vibrant and inclusive school community where every student feels valued, empowered, and inspired to spread positivity.

House Council Members

Selection Process

Our House Council at Franklin Middle School (formally known as Student Council), is made up of five representatives from each grade, 15 students total. 

Representatives are selected at the start of each school year following a two-part application process where students are to:

  1. Find two staff members to submit written recommendations.
  2. Complete a questionnaire detailing why they want to be a representative for their class.
 
Expectations
All House Council representatives are expected to:
  • be in good academic Standing & maintain this status
  • have Good behavioral standing throughout the year
  • follow all the guidelines set out by the Minnesota State High School League regarding extracurricular involvement in our schools.

Goals of House Council:

  • Promote Kindness and Inclusivity: Organize events and campaigns that celebrate academic achievement and positive behaviors, encourage empathy, and foster a culture of kindness and inclusivity within the school.
  • Encourage Positive Relationships: Create opportunities for students to build positive relationships with peers, teachers, and staff.
  • Recognize Achievements: Establish systems for recognizing and celebrating the achievements and contributions of students, teachers, and staff members who embody positivity and make a difference in the school community.
  • Cultivate Leadership Skills: Provide leadership development opportunities for student council members and other interested students to develop their leadership skills, including communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and decision-making.
  • Enhance School Spirit: Plan and organize events and activities that enhance school spirit and pride, such as pep rallies, spirit weeks, and themed events, to create a sense of unity and promote a strong sense of school belonging.
  • Effective Communication: Ensure transparent and effective communication channels between the student council, student body, teachers, staff, and administration to gather feedback, share updates, and collaborate on initiatives effectively.
